Sustainability:

WOHI would like to take its goal of strengthening the minds and bodies of children one step further by offering programs geared toward educating children on the importance of taking care of our planet. Eventually, it is our hope to raise enough money to build a viable program that has a lasting impact on the world.

Trees:

Thanks to the generous support and guidance from Trees for the Future , we will inaugurate our Sustainability Program at the start of the 2008 rain season by handing out seeds from the Moringa Oleifera and Acacia trees to preschool students. The Moringa Oleifera tree was chosen for its nutritious content, rich in Potassium and Vitamin C. As the tree grows, we will use the leaves as a nourishing supplement to all children lacking in vital nutrients. The Acacia tree benefits this farming community because of its fertilizing qualities. Eventually, we would like to help local farmers tend to their farms without the need of having to take loans to purchase fertilizer.

Organic Farming:

WOHI teachers have expressed interest in creating a vegetable garden at school so that the children can plant and grow their own yams and cassava . This program will also help sustain WOHI's Nutrition Program by providing nourishing food to students while they are at school.

WOHI would also like to assist local pineapple farmers in developing organic farming practices and to obtain Fair Trade certification for their produce. Developing a Fair Trade program will not only provide local farmers with fair wages for their goods, but will also prevent ground water contamination from pesticides used in current farming practices.

Solar Power:

WOHI is currently in the process of raising funds to install solar power panelling to the WOHI compound in order to make way for future computer literacy programs. Eventually, it is our hope to put together enough money to provide the entire village with Solar Power energy.
